Joe Crowley, Tournament Team Director

Baseball Travel Team Tryouts

The tryouts will include an independent evaluation. PLEASE NOTE: This schedule is subject to change, so please check the HYAA travel baseball web-site for updates to the schedule, or postponement due to inclement weather.

In accordance with Cal Ripken rules, big barrel bats are not allowed at the tryouts.

Please register with the HYAA office IN ADVANCE by sending an email to admin@hyaa.org with the following information:

  • your son's name
  • son's birthday
  • the team (age group) he intends to try out for
  • email address
  • phone number

Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time to sign-in and warm-up. Note that there are 2 tryouts for each age group. We strongly encourage boys to attend both tryouts for the team(s) they are trying out for. At least one tryout must be attended.

If your son plans to tryout for 2 age groups, you MUST specify their preference in advance.

Eligibility requirements: Only Holmdel residents who are members of HYAA are eligible for Holmdel travel baseball teams. All HYAA travel players are required to play HYAA rec baseball.

  • For 9U born after April 30, 2008
  • For 10U born after April 30, 2007
  • For 11U born after April 30, 2006

PLEASE NOTE. If you are or wish to be a candidate to coach HYAA baseball:

All HYAA coaches for rec baseball or travel baseball MUST be Rutgers Child Safety certified. HYAA is offering a Rutgers Child Safety Certification class on October 23. Please reserve your seat early by going to the HYAA home page and clicking on the link for the Rutgers SAFETY course.

Please be on time to allow for sign-in, numbers to be pinned on etc. Players may arrive early to warm-up if desired.

NOTE: Travel teams are competitive baseball teams requiring a higher skill level of player, and a higher level of commitment from both player and parents than recreational baseball. There are also additional expenses involved to cover purchase of uniforms and entry into tournaments. Children who tryout are not guaranteed a spot on the team, but we encourage all who are interested to tryout.
